Music Ministry at FLC
A dynamic part of life at First Lutheran is found in our Music Ministry. Musicians at FLC reflect the diversity and inclusion offered in this place. We represent various ages, levels of musical experience, races and sisters and brothers in the LGBTQ + community. We are committed to extending a warm welcome and enhancing worship for every one who walks through our doors.
The Anchor Choir is a mixed ensemble which sings in worship several times per month. This group invites sopranos, altos, tenors and basses who are high school age and above to join us in singing a wide variety of music.
Sojourners is our treble choir comprised of sopranos and altos who sing occasionally in worship.
Sons of the Rock features men of the congregation. They also sing periodically.
CHOIR REHEARSAL TIME IS 8:15 ON SUNDAY MORNING.
The Band demonstrates the prominent role of instrumentalists in worship. This group is a mixed wind ensemble consisting of woodwinds, brass and percussion. Soloists and small ensembles are often featured in worship.
REHEARSAL IS AS NEEDED.
At the organ and piano is Amber Clark, an accomplished musician by any measure. Amber possesses a wealth of knowledge and skill which she calls upon to uplift and inspire us each time she plays.
Director of Music Ministries is Bob Fornander, an Augustana graduate with a bachelor’s in vocal performance and music education. He earned a Master’s in vocal performance from the University of Minnesota. Bob retired from teaching bands and choirs at AlWood Middle/High School in Woodhull. He was a founding member of Nova Singers and performed with them for 18 years.

Our Instruments
Allen G-340
We were blessed in May of 2018 to dedicate our brand new three Manual, 58 stop Allen Organ. It sounds like a dream and plays like one too. It was difficult at first to say goodbye to our Moeller organ, which was original to this 1928 building. Members and friends carried out pipe after pipe varying in size from straws to sixteen feet long! In the end though, we are very pleased with our Allen Organ.
Steinway B
Our 1959 Steinway B seven foot grand piano was rebuilt in February 2019 by David Riggenbach, who does all of the piano work for Knox College. Our ability to do this was a partnership of gifts by members and friends of First Lutheran Church, and in conjunction with a gift from the Nova Singers’ Margaret Skinner Fund.
