Once a year, we show our appreciation for all those who
dedicate their lives for the safety and well-being of
others-First Responders. Homemade cookies are donated
and delivered to Fire Stations, the Police Department,
Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service (G.H.A.S.),
and Emergency Rooms.
Every other month, in our Parish Hall after worship,
a volunteer nurse takes and records blood pressures.

Healthy Heart Screening date.
One Sunday during the month of December our youth
collect from the congregation hundreds of donated
mittens, scarves, hats, and socks during the Sunday
Children’s Time service. Then they decorate a tree at
the front of the church sanctuary with all the collected gifts.
After the service the items are divided, packaged and
delivered to three local grade schools and to the local
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois.
There are several programs set up to include those who
are no longer able to join us during church service.
Sunday sermons on CD’s and the CD player, if needed,
are available for delivery. Call the Church Office at
309-343-3176 if you would like to have a copy of the
sermons on CD or if you are willing to deliver the CD’s
We are thankful to all those who deliver these gifts to our
members who are no longer able to join us on Sundays.
What does First Lutheran Church really, really do well?
We feed people! Our Outreach Committee, in meeting
with Jason Spring, Principal of GHS North – came up with
an idea to make students feel like they matter to us. We’ll
bake them a birthday cake! We have birthdates (or half for
summer birthdays) and give the kids a few options for
favorite cake. We have cake pans and box mixes. All you
need to do is take and bake.
